The Cambridge Valley Farmers Market is looking for a new Manager!
OVERVIEW
The Cambridge Valley Farmers Market is looking to fill the market manager position for the summer of 2016. People with a passion for local food, community, and market experience are encouraged to apply. The CVFM is held every Sunday from 10:00am-2:00pm, May-December, on Main Street in Cambridge, NY.
The market manager plays an important role in creating a festive, community-oriented atmosphere with live music and occasionally special market events. They are the “go-to” person for vendors and consumers during market hours and the overall CVFM representative on site. The job requires personal confidence and the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people and implement and enforce market rules.
The Cambridge Valley Farmers Market relies on the market manager to be its liaison with and between all parties served by the market. Successful managers understand both the vendors’ and the consumers’ needs and, in conjunction with market volunteers, design and implement strategies to meet these needs. The manager is required to be on-site at market and available to vendors and consumers for the entirety of the market’s hours, or to designate a market representative in the order of absence from the market.

COMPENSATION and EXPECTATIONS
This position offers a $2500 stipend to be paid in two lump-sums during the market season. This breaks down to roughly 7 hours/week at $14.50/hour. The market season begins May 1, 2016 and ends at the end of October. There is potential for a new contract for the Winter Market upon completion of Summer Contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Foster community support for the market
- Promote the market through social media, print media, and press releases
- Obtain accurate weekly records of market activities
- Manage market email account
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with vendors, the market committee, consumers, sponsors, and community members, groups and organizations
- Manage vendor applications through managemymarket.com
- Enforce market rules and guidelines
- Assist in setting up the market each Sunday (including the market table)
REQUIREMENTS
- Passion for building a local food system that values the environment, health, and quality of life of farmers and eaters
- Strong computer, organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills and highly self-motivated
- Experience working with diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member
- Willingness to work outdoors and to safely lift and carry 50 lbs
- Experience fundraising is a plus
- Experience working with the marketing or sales of fresh food items is preferred.
